Born in Groningen in 1963.
Completed the Academy of Visual Arts in Groningen in 1989 (art education/ first-degree teaching qualification in drawing).
I work in the business community and facilitate management to structure their processes in a risk based, pragmatic manner. There I compose with processes and risks to establish a model that is in balance similar to what I do in my visual work.
About my painting
Looking with an investigative eye at forms and a strong urge to create a new image with them, is my reason for drawing and painting. My focus lies with the formal aspects such as color, line, shape, texture, concept and not so much on the content.
Creating a painting is an intuitive leaping process that starts with a digital sketch or a sketch on paper. Making a sketch is a process in itself. I choose the most extreme and minimalistic solution. That is the starting point for a search in paint. My goal is to combine elementary basic forms into a balanced, silent composition that represents space and is the result of a creative process to put order in my thinking. I am interested in the essence and not focused on details.
What fascinates me is that a painting can be minimalistic and still fresh although it is the end product of a complex search. In what I do I feel inspired by abstract expressionism, in particular minimalism and color field painting because it focuses on the essence and purity of painting. I also feel attracted to De Stijl and Bauhaus.
